The Anatomy of Fitness Analytics (quantitative and qualitative)

Below are a few of the data analysis methods involved in the Star System. To better understand the complexities of variability, go here.

1.  Descriptive.
Descriptive statistics summarize and provide a clear overview of the data through means, medians, modes, ranges, and standard deviations.

2. Inferential.
Inferential statistics allow researchers to make predictions or inferences about a population based on a sample of data. Techniques such as regression analysis, hypothesis testing, and confidence intervals are used to draw conclusions about the data that can be generalized to a larger population.

3. Machine Learning/Predictive Modeling
Machine learning techniques can be used for both classification and prediction, helping to identify patterns in data and forecast future trends based on historical data.

4. Content Analysis (for Qualitative Data)
Content analysis is used to interpret textual data, images, or videos by systematically categorizing and coding the content.

5. Correlation and Causation Analysis
Understanding the relationships between variables is essential. Correlation analysis helps identify if and how strongly pairs of variables are related. Further statistical modeling is needed to explore causation, ensuring that changes in one variable actually cause changes in another.

6. Exploratory Data Analysis
EDA is an approach to analyzing datasets to summarize their main characteristics, often using visual methods. EDA is a flexible process and might involve a variety of techniques to uncover anomalies, patterns, and relationships in the data.

7. Predictive Analytics
This involves using historical data to make predictions about future results. Techniques such as machine learning models, including regression analysis, decision trees, and neural networks, are used for predictive analytics.

8. Prescriptive Analytics
Going beyond predictive analytics, prescriptive analytics seeks to recommend actions you can take to affect desired outcomes. It involves the use of optimization and simulation algorithms to advise on possible outcomes and answer "Which exercise is best suited?"
